Answer
What are the Recycling Guidelines?
Recycling collection in Philadelphia is every week on the same day as trash collection.
  • Recycling bins should be sturdy plastic or metal no larger than 32 gallons and labeled "RECYCLE" on the side.
  • All recycling in Philadelphia is now single stream, meaning customers can put all of their recyclables together in one bin--cans, glass, mixed paper, cardboard, and most plastic containers with no need to sort or separate them.
  • Cardboard boxes should be in the recycle bin unless they have food or grease on them. If they do, they should be thrown away as trash.
  • Recycling cannot be put out in paper bags, plastic bags, or cardboard boxes.
  • If one recycling bin isn't enough to hold everything, just add another one.
  • Shredded paper is recycling
  • Styrofoam is not recyclable
